The Harlem Renaissance was a time period where African-American ideas, cultures, art, lit, and music became popular. It also was when the African-Americans started freely showing pride in who they are and in they're culture.
Jazz
Jazz, originated in 20th century New Orleans, is a blend of instrumental ragtime and vocal blues. It became a popular form of music in Harlem and is very important to the Harlem Renaissance because African-Americans started doing things they liked proudly and were being recognized for it. Many jazz performers started winning numerous awards and being recognized for their talent like Duke Ellington, who won renown as one of America's greatest composers. |

Activism
Activism is defined as the policy or action of using vigorous campaigning to bring about political or social change. That is basically what the African- American people where doing during this time period. They wrote poems and essays and articles about the oppression they went through, they wrote about the change they wanted to see as well. |
